Do you know who that guy was???

Now that we are knee-deep in Aveda territory, both geographically and commercially, I’m taking a stronger interest in the company. Until now it was a line of hair products, cosmetics and salons that were too expensive for my personal cheapskate beauty aesthetic, yet admirable in their intentions (environmental friendliness). But with Alice going on the casting calls for the company and it being a likely/possible first place for her to earn some cash, my attention is grabbed.

Plus, today on public radio there was a featured interview with Horst Rechelbacher the founder of Aveda. Kerry Miller has a midmorning interview program (much like and easier to listen to Diane Rehm for my DC friends). I always enjoy the show and have an increasing opportunity to listen this summer, while I take long walks with my dog Audrey. This morning, Horst was interviewed as part of Kerry’s Leadership series. (Listen and read here: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/07/22/midmorning1/) .

Very interesting story, business ethic and environmental consciousness.

But here’s the thing. In looking up the URL to share with you, I see that there’s a picture of Horst on the webpage. On looking at it, I immediately yelled to Alice: Do you know who that guy was (at the Intelligent Nutrients casting call)? And for blog readers I’m referring to the Anglo guy walking around in the Asian smock fingering models’ hair (see July 9 post). It was Horst. The man. The head guy from Aveda (who sold the company to Estee Lauder for $300 million) and now Intelligent Nutrients himself.

Better I didn’t know then. I’m not good with hiding my emotions around impressive people.
